
The Virginia Moss memorial scholarship of $2,500 is given annually in honor of Virginia "Ginny" Moss who was an inspiration to young women. The family of Ginny has generously underwritten the cost of this annual scholarship and authorized Women In Defense to execute the scholarship distribution. Her achievements will be remembered by those she influenced and touched. Ginny Moss is an example of achievement success for the Women in Defense (WID) organization. She graduated from Franklin High School and attended Dover Business School immediately thereafter. She was hired at Picatinny Arsenal as a GS-3 Clerk Steno in 1962 and immediately began to progress rapidly from a Secretary to an Administrative Assistant while receiving numerous Outstanding Achievement Awards. She attended Morris County College taking many business development courses. In 1994, she was selected as Finance Officer for Program Manager Crusader, a major, multi-billion dollar program, again receiving numerous performance awards. She retired in 1998 as a member of the Army Acquisition Career Corps with a Level III certification having reached the GS-14 level. Ginny was not all work. She was the mother of two sons and one daughter. She was an acclaimed toile and decorative painter, with many products existing in the local community - and in 1965, achieve notoriety by parachuting from a plane in Newton, NJ as reported by the New York Daily News. Virginia died in 2003 from breast cancer.
This scholarship is on Virginia's behalf and is being given to an outstanding young woman who exemplifies Ginny's spirit and is pursing a degree in Business. Ginny was a self-starter whose initiative, enthusiasm and drive for higher education allowed her to achieve career success.
